Spock: Lieutenant Jakaarl, please prepare for the release of the occupant of cell K7.

Jakaarl: Yes sir, I will take care of that right away.

Cyrano: Harry, I find that small valuable items such as Spicken Flame Gems or flasks of Antarian Glow Water are excellent items to sell.

Harry: Ah Cyrano, why do you say that?

Cyrano: Well, because everyone thinks that they are. Ask any person and he'll agree that small valuable items are excellent items to sell.

Harry: You are wrong there Cyrano. You are using the ad populum fallacy by saying everyone knows that small items are excellent trade goods.
That's a logical fallacy, so you are wrong sir.

Cyrano: So, small valuable items aren't excellent trade goods?

Harry: No, they cannot be good products to trade in my good man. Your argument was invalid, thus your conclusion can't be true. Simple logic sir.

Cyrano: Oh, alright then. Hmm, I guess so.

Spock: Mr. Mudd, Mr. Jones, I happen to overhear your remarks.

Harry: Yes, Mr. Spock.

Spock: The argument you are employing Mr. Mudd is not logical in fact. It exhibits the fallacy of the argument from fallacy, also known as the bad reasons fallacy.

Cyrano: I thought he was persuasive.

Spock: That may seem so Mr. Jones, but his argument is invalid. It employs the formal fallacy of analyzing an argument and inferring that, since it contains a fallacy, its conclusion must be false.
Mr. Mudd, you employed this fallacy when you rejected Mr. Jones' conclusion that small valuable items are excellent trade goods, because he fallaciously reasoned that everyone thought they were.
However, fallacious arguments can arrive at true conclusions, so even though he did not prove his conclusion, you did not disprove it either, especially since you gave no argument other than stating that his argument was incorrect.

Cyrano: Yes, of course. Thank you, friend Spock.

Harry: Indeed. I shall definitely endeavor to reword my statements in the future, my good sir.

Spock: That would be best.
Even if an argument seems to make sense, it cannot be valid unless the form is valid and that it does not exhibit one of the logical fallacies such as the argument from fallacy or the bad reasons fallacy.
It's only logical.
