Things Unknown to Me
I saw from the news a bomb was dropped
A 14th-century church collapsed from the top
Within seconds, hundreds years of history was gone
In a city the name I had not known
Sun is shining in the sky
Cherry blossoms by my side
Under the trees is a girl with her hijab on
Watching the cherry since the dawn
I’m wondering what she might ask
Will a bright future rise from the dust?
Will the families unite and hold their dears,
When the end of war is near?
Will a reform knock the door,
Or separations once more?
