Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi got out in an unfortunate manner in the IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, April 26. The right-handed batter was given out for allegedly obstructing the field, scoring just nine runs off eight deliveries.

The dismissal took off the last delivery of the fifth over during KKR’s innings. Prince Yadav bowled a length ball, and Raghuvanshi nudged it towards mid-on and set off for a single, but his batting partner, Cameron Green, sent him back from the non-striker’s end. In the meantime, Mohammad Shami threw the ball at the striker’s end, and the batter was seemingly gazing at the ball before changing his direction to align with the throw and copping a blow.

Shami immediately appealed for obstructing the field. The on-field umpire referred the decision to the TV umpire, who took a look at replays before adjudging Raghuvanshi out. Ironically, the batters are advised to avoid running in the danger area of the pitch.

The youngster was visibly angry at the decision before questioning the umpires. He then smashed his bat and threw his helmet outside the playing area. Following the dismissal, KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar was seen in an animated chat with the fourth umpire on the sidelines.

Why was Angkrish Raghuvanshi given out in LSG vs KKR IPL 2026 match? Explained

According to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) rule 37.1:

“Either batter is out obstructing the field if, except in the circumstances of 37.2, and while the ball is in play, he/she wilfully attempts to obstruct or distract the fielding side by word or action.”

The only exceptions to the rule are if the obstruction is accidental or to avoid an injury.

According to Cricbuzz, only three other batters have been dismissed while obstructing the field in IPL history — Yusuf Pathan (KKR vs now defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013), Amit Mishra (Delhi vs SunRisers Hyderabad in 2019), and Ravindra Jadeja (Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2024).

As far as the match is concerned, the Knight Riders were 59/4 after nine overs, with Green (24 off 15) and Rinku Singh (11 off 9) at the crease. KKR and LSG are placed 10th and 9th, respectively, in the IPL 2026 points table. They have managed one and two wins in seven games, respectively.
