Mlaba Reprimanded for Code of Conduct Breach During Women’s World Cup Match
South African left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba has been officially reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s World Cup match against India. The incident occurred in the 17th over when Mlaba dismissed Indian batter Harleen Deol and made a provocative gesture, which umpires deemed inappropriate.
Mlaba accepted the charge under Article 2.5, receiving one demerit point for her first offence in 24 months. Match referee Trudy Anderson and umpires Jacquline Williams, Kim Cotton, Candace le Borde, and Sue Redfern confirmed the Level 1 offence.
The ICC emphasized that maintaining sportsmanship is vital, and the reprimand serves as a reminder for all players to uphold the spirit of the game, even in high-pressure situations. Despite the sanction, Mlaba continues to be a key bowler for South Africa.
