Here are two folk tales about paper money for your reference:
1. Cai Lun, the inventor of paper during the Later Han Dynasty, had difficulty selling his paper. He devised a plan and told his wife, "I'm going to pretend to be dead. You can buy a coffin, put me inside, and burn paper money in front of it for seven days, treating it like money." His wife did as he instructed. Seven days later, Cai Lun emerged from the coffin and told everyone, "After I died, I was taken to see Yama, the King of Hell, by Generals Ox-Head and Horse-Face. On the way, I met many officials, and I gave them the paper money my wife had burned. Yama ordered the officials to check the records of good and evil deeds in the mortal world. They found that I had done many good deeds, so they extended my life and allowed me to return to the mortal world." Everyone believed him, and they competed to burn paper money for the deceased. The practice eventually became popular, and Cai Lun no longer had to worry about poor sales.
2. During the Ming Dynasty's founding of the empire, Emperor Taizu returned to his hometown one day to sweep his mother's grave. However, among the many graves, he couldn't recognize which one was his mother's. Because his mother was very poor when she died, she couldn't afford to build a decent grave. So he placed a piece of paper money on each grave and prayed to his mother, saying, "If this is your grave, please accept the paper money from the grave!" Sure enough, the paper money on one of the graves disappeared, and he finally found his mother's grave.
