India Shine at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championship with Record 22 Medals
India delivered a historic performance at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championship in New Delhi, winning a record 22 medals — 6 gold, 9 silver, and 7 bronze — finishing 10th overall. Despite low attendance and stray dogs on the field making headlines, India’s para-athletes stole the show.
The team of 73 athletes broke three World Championship records, seven Asian records, and nearly 30 personal bests. Javelin throwers dominated with multiple gold-silver finishes, led by Sumit Antil, who claimed his third consecutive world title with a record throw of 71.37m. Other standout performers included Simran Sharma, Nishad Kumar, Shailesh Kumar, Preeti Pal, and Yogesh Kathuniya, who consistently shone in track and field events.
India’s para-athletic future looks bright, with growing strength across disciplines and inspiring performances despite challenges. The championship was not just a medal tally, but a testament to resilience, determination, and rising global competitiveness.
