A Small Note for Francis Matthys :Discovering a Belgian poet in Fès
I found Encre du cœur by chance on a book stall in Fès, Morocco.
I did not know Francis Matthys before opening this book. I only discovered a gentle poetic voice: soft, intimate, and full of light.
I later learned that L’Encre du cœur was his only poetry collection, which made this small encounter feel even more precious.
"Le bonheur nous arrive au cœur / Par le chemin des écoliers."
Perhaps happiness often comes this way ... quietly, by unexpected paths.
Francis Matthys was also a journalist, and perhaps that attention to the world can be felt in his poetry: simple, observant, and close to human moments.
A book written far away found its way to me. A poet I never met left a small comfort behind.
Thank you, Francis Matthys.
