I feel a deep sorrow, as if watching a snowflake fall to the ground, shatter, and dissolve into dirty water — a powerless despair.
I want to commemorate this moment — for those who stay true to themselves, for those who refuse to be complicit.
Yet, before the tyranny of monarchy, wealth, conglomerates, and brute power, who is not Yu Menglong?
And how many women, forced into East Asian marriages, are not also coerced into a so-called voluntary step into this inevitable Ants’ Dilemma of destruction?
The Ants’ Dilemma
In a vast forest, there lived over a billion happy ants.
One day, a frail and wounded elephant stumbled into their world.
The elephant pleaded with the ants: “Save me. If you feed me and help me recover, I will protect you in the future and repay your kindness.”
The ants softened. They believed that if they treated the elephant with kindness, they would one day be protected. So, they gave the best of their food to the elephant.
At first, the elephant seemed to keep its promise. While healing, it did not harm the ants and even appeared to cooperate with them.
Yet, in secret, the elephant began quietly crushing the ants who doubted it.
In truth, a billion ants already had the power to kill the elephant.
But the elephant saw through them: the ants were timid, accustomed to being silent lambs. As long as they themselves weren’t trampled, they were content to watch from the sidelines.
As time passed, the elephant grew bigger, and its appetite became monstrous.
Whenever the ants provided less than the best, the elephant would randomly crush some ants as a bloody warning.
So the ants were forced to continue feeding it, offering their very best.
結果,大象愈發高大、壯碩、強大;
As a result, the elephant grew taller, stronger, and more powerful;
while the ants grew thinner and weaker, with deaths far outnumbering births.
The surviving ants prayed for divine punishment to strike the elephant down, all the while continuing to deliver their finest food.
But no gods appeared. Most of the ants perished.
The ants once had a chance: if a billion of them attacked together, they could have killed the elephant.
Yet, because of fear, dependency, and division, they missed their only chance.
In the end, the elephant drained the entire anthill dry,
shaking its ears with satisfaction,
before leisurely strolling toward the next anthill.
This time, it could destroy five billion more.
