【Fanfic Sketch - Short Fragment】Underground Corridor (Eva)
Drip.
A droplet of water hit the greyish floor, then dissolved into it.
But the shadow beside it didn't notice, just like countless times before.
The girl with glasses stood in the dim underground corridor, twirling her own hair.
There was nothing to see here, so she stared at the water stains on the wall.
The stains eroded the already mottled walls. If this continued, they'd sure seep into every corner.
No. It was too late.
This wall—this entire place—must have been soaked through long ago. Though the exterior still looked passable, the interior must be beyond bearing to look at.
I can't stay in a place like this any longer.
Here and out there... it's all the same...
Those people? They're just like the rest. Everything is the same. Nothing has changed.
This place is rotten to the core.
How could I rot away with them? I'm better than that.
This place isn't where I belong.
I will get out.
The girl continued twirling her hair, gazing toward the far end of the corridor.
In the gloom, streaked with water stains and cracks, even the faintly flickering incandescent bulbs become muddied.
She frowned.
I can't stay in this godforsaken place any longer.
The girl stood rooted to the spot, in the coldness that sank into the bones, lost in thought.
In the swift light and darkness, the shadow started to blur and fade.
Drip.
Another droplet fell, seeping into the veins of the underground corridor.
As always, the shadow didn't notice.
