Time and Space Series 時空系列 - 1

Whenever we ask, "What time is it now?", we realize that in ancient times, without clocks, people relied on the sun, moon, and stars. Later, with technological advancements, we used clocks and watches. In modern times, we use mobile phones and computers. But have we ever truly considered what time actually is ? 🤔

每當我們問，現在是甚麼時間，古代人沒有鐘錶，看的是日月星晨。後來科技進步，看的是鐘，錶。現代再進步一些，看的是手機、電腦。但我們可曾想過，時間究竟是甚麼？🤔

Imagine you're inside an underground cave with a permanent light source, but no timekeeping device. How do you know how much time has passed?

You'll feel thirsty or need to use the restroom, feel hungry and want to eat, feel tired and need to rest; you'll notice your clothes are old, your hair is long, your nails are long, children have grown taller, the grass on the ground has grown taller, plants have flowered and borne fruit; you'll see people's bodies age, and their work has yielded more results. In these ways, you'll know that time has passed.

假設是住在地底內，有永久光源，但沒有任何計時儀器，又如何知到時間呢？感覺到口渴又或要去如廁? 感覺到饑餓要吃東西? 感覺到累要休息? 發覺衣服舊了? 頭髮長了? 指甲長了? 小孩長高了? 地上的草長高了? 有植物開過花，結過果? 看到人的身體老化了? 工作的成果多了? 這樣，便知時間過去了。

There, from birth to death, people never see the sunrise or sunset, never use clocks or other instruments, and never hear the word "time", then what is time to them?

在那裡，人們自出生到死亡，未曾見過日升月降，未曾用過鐘錶儀器，亦未聽過"時間"這一詞，那對他們來說，時間又是甚麼呢？

There, there is no concept of "time," but there is "change." They call it "change," and they might use some rapid changes as units of small changes, such as the instant a drop of water falls from the top of a cave to the ground, and use a word to represent it. They might use the growth process of a type of grass as a representative of a longer change, and then use another word, and so on, thus creating a system of measurement for the speed of change, just like our "time."

在那裡，沒有"時間"這概念，但卻有"變化"。在那裡，他們叫"變化"，可能拿一些快的變化現象來作小變化的單位，例如拿一滴水由洞頂掉到地上的瞬間，並用一個字詞去代表，又拿一種草的長成過程作為較長改變的代表，於是便又有另一字詞，餘此類推，便有了又關改變快慢的度量衡制，就像我們的"時間"。

"時間"的真面目 Real Nature of "TIME."

Since we are born with a date and time, we have mistakenly regarded "time" as something that exists. In fact, "time" is just a representation. What does it represent? It represents "change" and "transformation." This is its true nature. From now on, let's try not to call that phenomenon "time," but rather "change," because this is its true nature.

由於自出生便已有了年月日時，我們已誤把"時間"看成是一種存在的東西，其實"時間"只是一個代表，它代表甚麼？是"改變"，是"變化"，這才是它的真面目。從現在開始，我們嘗試不叫那現象叫"時間"，我們改為叫"它"作"改變"，因為這才是它的真面目。

Now, conversely, if everything and everyone in the world stopped changing instantly, if the entire universe remained unchanged from one minute to the next, including the positions of people and things, the frequency and energy state of matter, the metabolism of living organisms and plants, the energy levels of electromagnetic fields, the positions of photons, changes in solar nuclear fusion, and so on… then what would the word "time" represent? Would it still have any meaning? Would time still exist?

現在反過來推論，如果這世界所有人事物瞬間停止變化，前一分鐘跟後一分鐘全宇宙都沒有任何改變，包括人事物的位置，包括物質的頻率、能量狀態，位置，生物植物的代謝、電磁場的能級、光子的位置、太陽核聚變的改變等等…，那"時間"一詞，又能代表甚麼？還有意義嗎？時間還存在嗎？

"變化" 便是"時間" - "CHANGE" is "TIME"

When we say the word "TIME", it often carries a somewhat abstract connotation, as if it's not quite tangible. But if we use another word, "CHANGE", then its meaning and what it represents become very clear. So from now on, let's use "CHANGE" instead of the word "TIME"...

每當我們說「時間」這個詞，腦海中多少帶點空範，好像不太實在。但如果我們換另外一個詞，叫它作“變化”，它的意思和所代表的就十分明晰了。所以從現在開始，就讓我們用「變化」來代替「時間」這個詞吧……

Why is it important to clarify the concept of "TIME" ? Because if the basic concept is not clear, it will be more difficult to understand later on.

為甚麼要把"時間"這概念說清楚？因為基本概念不清楚，將來再看下去就比較難明白。
