 【Note 1】

This article is divided into two parts.

The first part is “Real-World Scenario Translation."

As the title suggests, this involves translating characters' words and actions into more realistic scenarios to deepen understanding of them.

The content here has【 already appeared in other articles.】 For ease of reference and organization, it is being centralized here as a personal archive.

Part Two: “Personal Reflections and Expanding Thoughts.”

This section contains content 【not previously featured in other articles.】 However, as the title indicates, this is not a formal thematic analysis or character analysis.

This section includes both “in-story” and “outside-the-story” perspectives.

Regarding the “out-of-story” content:

As it involves contemplating the original author's intent and narrative techniques, discussions of audience perspective are unavoidable.

Due to considerations of writing angles, certain sections will discuss characters as narrative devices rather than as individual human beings.

This may disrupt audience immersion and cause discomfort; please proceed with caution.

The content and deductions herein are based on the author's personal experience, perspective, and thinking, and are not guaranteed to be correct or truly aligned with the original work.

In this section, as the author operates in “author mode,” the writing style may appear more detached and cold.

【Part One—“Real-World Scenario Translation”】

【The Real-Life Scenario Translation of Wolfgang's Words and Actions】

【Note】

To avoid excessive repetition, the second representative speech segment is selected here, along with the more similar scenarios such as【Disaster】 and 【War】.

【Key Note】

In the original work, group members actually share two common identities:

1. Ultimate (positive suggestion)

2. Kidnapping Victims (negative suggestion)

Since the original work portrays Wolfgang choosing the more positively suggestive “Ultimate,” the switched version will also choose the more positive shared identity pronoun.

【Word translation chart】

Ultimate: The group's current shared identity.

Talent: The unique identity of individual group members.

Trap, fire guns, and force to endure farcical courtroom procedures: The actions currently being taken against the group by external enemies.

1.

First, the original text.

【Killing Game Version】

【"Regardless, I finally have an answer to your previous question."

"You asked me if I knew anything about my friends besides their names and talents."

"Truthfully, I don't...but I'll continue to trust them as if I do...because they're Ultimates."

"They are charged with the betterment of society. And they have proven themselves to be above simple acts of self-interest..."

"We will not succumb! Even if you trap us, fire guns at us, and force us to endure farcical courtroom procedures!" 】

2.

【Disaster Response Version】

Note: The dialogue object here (formally) can be regarded as opportunistic exploiters (external enemy).

【“Regardless, I finally have an answer to your previous question.”

“You asked me if I knew anything about my friends besides their names and occupations.

Truthfully, I don't... but I'll continue to trust them as if I do... because they're survivors.”

“They are charged with the betterment of society. And they have proven themselves to be above simple acts of self-interest...”

  【Killing Game Version】

  Eva:

["You've got it all wrong. "

"Do you actually believe no one here will try to kill? You're really naive. I don't know how you made it as a lawyer."

"It's obvious. Compared to normal people, Ultimates are more prone to killing, not less."

"Living with constant praise from public has ruined our sense of self... if you need examples, just look around the room."

"In the outside world, Ultimates will do anything to further their own goals, The same is probably true here."

"Once you realize your dreams can only be achieve if you escape...you'll resort to murder."

"If you continue to convince all of these people to trust each other, they'll only be more vulnerable."

"Unless that was your plan all along? Is it possible  you want to make people vulnerable... so that it will be easier for you to kill them?" ]

Damon:

["Eva is right."

"Look, I get it. You want to make the situation less scary for everyone... but Eva made a good point."

"All of us have a clear motivation to leave this place, even at the cost of other people's lives."

"Whether it's to see your families again,...or for the sake of our talents."

“Diana, you yourself admitted you had 'too much to achieve', don't you see how that's this playing into the masked man's hands?"

"This whole 'we're all Ultimate' thing is pretty inane anyway."

"After meeting all of you, it's clear none of us has the same goal."

(Wolfgang)"...What are you insinuating? Don't we all carry the same obligation to improve the world we live in?”

"Look, the title barely means shit nowadays, alright?"

“Most Ultimate are just dullards obsessing over some pointless hobby. Their talents don't contribute anything of worth."

"The only thing they're capable of is leeching off public attention for their own goals."

(Wenona: "You've got to be kidding me. Running a business that feeds millions is pointless?")

"Some of you are an exception, obviously...But come on, there's no way the rest of you can't improve the world we live in.' with your niche fixations."]

[Note: To avoid excessive repetition, only representative passages from Damon and Eva's speeches are quoted here.]

——[Reality Comparison 1]

The earthquake or tsunami had just ended, and the sufferers were still in shock. Some people volunteered to help with disaster relief. Although no one knew when the next disaster would strike, the sufferers still had the will to live and fragile mental stability.

Eva:

“It's obvious. Compared to normal people, Sufferers are more prone to rob, not less. Living in such harsh conditions has ruined our sense of morality... Sufferers will do anything to further their own goals. Once you realise that your survival can only be achieve if you use violence ... You will resort to robbing.”

(Replacing “robbing may occur” with “sufferers will rob”)

“If you continue to convince all of these people to help each other, they will only be more in danger.”

(Weakens the belief in post-disaster mutual aid and reconstruction)

“Unless that was your plan all along? (the temporary volunteer disaster relief team leader) Is it possible you want to make people in danger... so that it will be easier for you to embezzle survival supplies?”

(Unsubstantiated accusation against the temporary symbolic figure of group spirit, undermining collective trust and cohesion)

Damon:

“Eva is right.”

“All of us have a clear motivation to survive, even at the cost of other people's survival supplies.”

(Replacing the desire to survive with harming others)

“Most of the sufferers are just idiots who are obsessing over meaningless details. Their ability doesn't contribute anything of worth.”

“The only thing they're capable of is consuming social resources for their own survival.”

“Some of you are an exception, obviously...But come on, there's no way the rest of you can't improve the situation we live in, with your niche fixations.”

(Denying the collective meaning of the survivors' existence and undermining their collective will to survive)

——[Real-life comparison 2]

Faced with a major fire, the victims were thrown into panic. Some volunteers took charge, though unsure how the fire would spread, the group of victims still held onto hope for survival.

Eva:
“It's obvious. Compared to normal people, victims are more prone to betray others, not less. Being in such an extreme environment has ruined our sense of ethics... victims will do anything to further their own goals. Once you realise that your escape can only be achieve if you abandon others... You will resort to betray.”

(Replace “some people may abandon others” with “it is in the nature of victims to betray others.”)

“If you continue to convince all of these people to assist each other, they will only endanger themselves.”

(Weakens the idea of maintaining order in a fire to organise an escape.)

“Unless that was your plan all along? (the temporary coordinator) Is it possible you want to put everyone in danger... so that it will be easier for you to monopolise the escape route alone?”

(Unsubstantiated accusation against the temporary symbolic figure of group spirit, undermining collective trust and cohesion)

Damon:
“Eva is right.”

“All of us have a strong desire to survive, even at the expense of others' lives.”

(Replace “desire to survive” with “sacrifice others”)

“Most of the victims are just idiots who are wandering around aimlessly. Their ability doesn't contribute anything of worth.

“The only thing they're capable of is consuming social resources for their own survival.”

“Some of you are an exception, obviously...But come on, there's no way the rest of you can't improve the situation we are in, with your niche fixations.”

(Denying the collective survival value of the victims and undermining their collective will to survive)

——[Reality Comparison 3]

When war (one group attacking another) suddenly broke out, the people were in a state of panic. The enemy army was already at the front, and some people volunteered to lead the resistance. Although they did not know when the next attack would come, the people still held on to hope for the future and the will to resist.

(The confrontation between the student group and the Masterminds is actually very similar to a miniature version of the confrontation between countries. Although the scale is vastly different, the essence is the same—the confrontation between groups with different positions.)

Eva:
“It's obvious. Compared to normal people, citizens are more prone to become traitors, not less. Being in such a special environment has ruined our sense of honour... citizens will do anything to further their own goals. Once you realise that your future can only be achieve if you rebel ... You will defect to the enemy.”

(Replacing “some people may defect to the enemy” with “all citizens are traitors”)

“If you continue to convince all of these people to support each other, they will only harm themselves.”

(Weakening the consensus that maintaining basic social order is essential to preserving humanity in war)

“Unless that was your plan all along? (the leader of the temporary volunteer army)Is it possible you want to put everyone in harm... so that it will be easier for you to surrender and save your own life alone?”

(Unsubstantiated accusation against the temporary symbolic figure of group spirit, undermining collective trust and cohesion)

Damon:
“Eva is right.”

“All of us have a strong instinct to protect ourselves, even at the cost of betraying our country.”

(Replacing the instinct for self-preservation with betraying the country)

“Most of the citizens are just idiots who are jumpy. Their ability doesn't contribute anything of worth. And the only thing they are good at is preserving their own lives at the expense of human civilisation.”

“Some of you are an exception, obviously...But come on, there's no way the rest of you can't improve the situation we are in, with your niche fixations.”

(Denying the collective survival value of the citizens and undermining their collective will to survive)

 【Part Two—Personal Reflections and Expanding Thoughts】

The following are the author's personal reflections and exploratory thoughts, not formal thematic or character analyses. Please read with caution.

Some of the content felt a bit scattered at first, but still, better to organize it a little in advance.

Quoting from a previous article:

From a purely in-story perspective, if the group or certain members within it are psychologically and spiritually more fragile than anticipated, or if their discernment and moral standards are low enough.

Then, upon experiencing Damon and Eva's destructive words and actions at the end of the prologue, the group could implode immediately—or even be directly cleared out by the Mastermind.

Alternatively, murder or assault could have occurred that very night (with locks rendered ineffective)—and the targets would likely have been, if not the weakest members, then Damon and Eva themselves.

Subsequently, with half the group publicly expressing dissatisfaction or hostility toward them, even if Damon and Eva didn't attack others, others could very well have attacked them proactively—at an unknown time, in an unknown location, and by unknown means.

——The same question remains:

At this time point, how could they possibly know what kind of people the group truly was, what state they were in, or how they would react to such words and actions?

How could they possibly know what kind of person the Mastermind truly was, whether he was rational and stable enough, whether his words and goals were real or fake, or whether this so-called “killing game” was just the offhand remark of an inconsistent psychopath?

Or could there be hidden information and networks? Might the nature of the entire situation be fundamentally different from what they imagined?

And so on.

The rules later issued by the Mastermind did not include a clause stating “only the first killer counts.”

But even if such a clause existed (implying the Mastermind must uphold order to some extent), from the students' perspective, they were currently at a time point where no rules had been announced—they didn't even know if such a thing as “rules” would ever exist.

—In other words, even if the Mastermind truly was some kind of “absolutely neutral and fair host," at this moment, he had no justification or reason to prevent a potential collective implosion, attack, or chain massacre.

Whether in moments of crisis or in everyday life.

Often, actions like establishing basic collective consensus, upholding basic behavioral/moral standards, maintaining basic potential for mutual support, and sustaining basic collective morale are not driven by—nor must they be driven by—what are essentially subjective judgments of “virtue” or “kindness,” or what might be labeled as “naivety,” “escapism,” or “old, rigid hypocrisy.”

Rather, they are reality-based, pragmatically—even utilitarian—【survival strategies.】

A means to enhance the likelihood and success rate of protecting the most basic rights of every individual within this group—— 【the right to survival】.

—Any actions resembling “construction”/”sustainable development”/”optimization” must be grounded on the premise that the “foundation” upon which these actions are conducted still exists.

If the foundation is blown to smithereens, then how can there be any talk of development?

And as for the act of actively blowing up the very shaky foundation one stands upon—what exactly is the nature of that?

And the “malicious presumption” of Damon and Eva is not a genuinely strategic one based on evidence and facts--one that is designed to minimize the “what if I'm lucky” mindset.

Even if they repeatedly use phrases like “this isn't a game” that appear to mean exactly that on the surface.

—Otherwise, why would they dare repeatedly and persistently underestimate others, believe in the Mastermind, and engage in actions that clearly ignore obvious risks?

This, in fact, proves that they are fully trusting in the safety of their environment, holding an almost naive blind trust and goodwill presumption toward others--even the Mastermind.

Those who genuinely strategically presume the environment is fraught with mortal danger, and others harbor malicious intent ready to strike at any moment, would not dare to display potentially aggressive or provocative behavior at every turn openly. Nor would they dare to underestimate others' capabilities and intentions (whether internal or external) through the “what if I'm lucky” mentality.

Because they understand what the possible consequences actually mean.

Damon and Eva are not just at talent-level (debater and mathlete), but their entire way of living and way of thinking—that is, the linear, one-way model within established rules: [being given a problem/competition → solving it/defeating opponents → winning and receiving rewards].

Both are built upon a bonding requirement for a “civilized society possessing fairness, order, and a moral baseline”, a “background environment generally set as good-intentioned presumptions and stable,”—especially Eva.

Their talents have meaning only within the rule framework of civilized society; their way of thinking can operate only in a secure, stable, and fair environment.

【—That is to say, they are essentially products and beneficiaries of a highly civilized, moral, and orderly society. They are individuals who can only survive by relying entirely on civilized society.】

【The reason they can carry out actions called “sobriety/independence/resistance,” which are in fact entirely unconstructive acts of attack and destruction, is precisely because the level of civilization in this society is currently high enough that it can still tolerate and endure such behavior.】

Then, what if this background environment isn't the ideal stage as originally preset, but rather something else—something just wearing a skin, while its core has long since been replaced?

—What if the given conditions are false, the rules are traps, the question-setter is malicious, opponents are all “unreasonable” or resort to any means, the so-called “victory/reward” is just a tool for manipulation, inflicting harm, and extracting value, and even the “exam venue/competition ground” itself isn’t a fair contesting space, but a facade with ulterior motives?

Or rather, what if their words and actions truly brought about the worst possible outcome—transforming the descriptions and narratives in their speeches from a momentary personal fiction into an irreversible, all-encompassing reality?

—What if the environment they live in truly descends into complete, unordered chaos? Where everyone harbors hostility and murderous intent, fighting for themselves, where violence reigns supreme, where the weak are preyed upon by the strong, where barbarism and despair become the dominant forces? And where no one dares to step forward to organize or manage, ultimately becoming a piece of meat to be freely plundered and dealt with by a more powerful malice or external enemy?

What if the situation descends into such uncontrollable chaos that a truly absolute, malicious authority—like the Mastermind—deems it impossible to achieve their objectives, thus worthless, leading to a premature clear-out?

To put it bluntly, from a bystander's perspective:

In the worst-case scenario, if the protective shell provided by the remnants of civilized society is actually shattered completely, and the group truly regresses into a pack of boundless pure, cornered beasts.

Then why would they wait to resolve conflicts and problems through words?

Why would they keep someone who offers no tangible benefits within reach (such as force, real-time strategic capabilities, control/organizational abilities, psychological/life-state adjustment skills, etc.), yet repeatedly exhibiting aggressive intent and behavior, contaminates and endangers the survival environment, and potentially a threat that could be exploited by enemies, or even, indeed is a potential enemy spy?

And from the perspective of external enemies (like the Mastermind), if the group truly slips into this state, is there any point in continuing to wear the mask of a “neutral, fair host”?

 In short:

What makes the environment treat talents labeled as “impractical” by preconceived judgments, and inexplicable aggressive behaviors, only with prejudice, dismissal, aversion, sarcasm, and exclusion—rather than directly turning to launch assault, exploitation, abuse, violation, abandonment, murder, and so on?

What prevents them from being directly dragged out of the “exam venue/competition ground” by genuine malicious parties—at their convenience or whim—to be treated as they please? Just like how Eva was dragged out of the class trial ground by the Mastermind at the end of Chapter One to face execution?

What makes them capable of continuing to live, continuing to “express so-called different opinions/viewpoints” at all?

As mentioned in the previous piece.

A key trait of Eva is the presumption that she holds some kind of absolute control over the outside world, and that she will never truly suffer irreversible, irreparable harm (a delusion of omnipotence, despite being physiologically an adult) — taking the privileges and protection afforded to her for granted, while simultaneously attacking and destroying the very existences that provide them.

That is, she presumes that no matter how much she attacks, the world will continue to protect her; no matter how much she destroys, the “foundation” will not collapse—whether in daily life or in murder games.

Unable to see what she stands upon, nor understand who exactly provides the very thing that keeps her steady, naturally, she cannot predict the collapse of the foundation, nor the consequences of its collapse.

—such as the elite identity protection and social system safeguards provided by the title/UTP; environmental protection provided by the group's goodwill presumption and high level of civilization; even the repeated indulgence and breathing room provided by the Mastermind's high rationality, sharp situational judgment, and the neutral facade and illusion of fairness they must maintain to achieve their goals.

And Damon is the protagonist. Protagonists need to fulfill specific narrative functions, such as being the perspective carrier and thematic vessel.

Given the current narrative structure, Eva is highly likely to be one of Damon's similar mirror images—an extreme version of his certain traits, a preview of the endpoint of one possible path, an existence existing as the 【warning sign】—a kind of “shadow” mirror image.

Moreover, the rules themselves do not prohibit serial killings or collective massacres.

In any case, this is only some exploratory thinking. Let's wrap up these ramblings here.
