Jesus Warns the Church in Taiwan
Jesus Warns the Church in Taiwan
1. A Fire That Changed My Fate
My name is Liang Wen, I'm 42 years old, and I've been an architect in Taipei for 15 years. That night that changed my life—every time I close my eyes, the pungent smell of smoke and the intense heat of the flames are still vivid in my mind, as if it happened just yesterday. I lived on the third floor of an old five-story apartment building, which used to be our family's haven. My wife, Mei Hui, and our two children, 10-year-old Xiao Ming and 7-year-old Xiao Fang, were all fast asleep. Raindrops tapped against the window, creating a monotonous and hypnotic rhythm. I should have been immersed in a deep sleep too, but that smell woke me up.
At first, I thought it was a neighbor cooking something in the kitchen or someone smoking, but as I gradually became more alert, I realized it wasn't the usual smell of food or tobacco; it was the smell of burning. I sat up in bed, immediately realizing something terrible was happening. "Mei Hui!" I shouted, shaking my wife awake. "Get up! There's a fire!" She opened her blurry eyes, not quite understanding what was happening, but seeing the panic on my face, she immediately snapped back to reality. We could both smell the smoke growing thicker, and even hear explosions and burning sounds in the distance. "Children!" Mei Hui cried out, and we both jumped out of bed.
I rushed to the bedroom door, but when I grasped the doorknob, the metal felt like a branding iron. I covered my hands with my sleeve and carefully opened the door, a wave of heat and thick smoke immediately hitting me. The situation in the hallway was worse than I had imagined; flames had spread from downstairs, orange-red tongues licking the ceiling and walls. The smoke made my eyes water and made it hard to breathe.
I covered my mouth and nose with my hands, bending over and groping my way forward through the thick smoke. Xiao Ming and Xiao Fang's room was at the end of the hallway, but that hallway, which usually took only a few seconds to walk, had now become a road to hell. "Dad, Mom, I heard Xiaofang's terrified cries coming from her room. Her voice was so faint amidst the smoke and flames, but to me it was the most important sound in the world."
2. My Last Prayer Before Dying
I struggled forward, each step becoming increasingly difficult. The thick smoke made it almost impossible to see anything, and the intense heat burned my skin. When I finally reached the doorknob of Xiaofang's room, I found the door jammed, probably due to the building's structural deformation under the heat. I pushed and kicked with all my might, finally breaking the door open. The scene inside broke my heart. Xiaofang and Xiaoming were huddled in the corner of the bed, coughing incessantly from the smoke, their eyes filled with terror. I rushed to the children, hugged them, and said, "Don't be afraid, Daddy's here. We have to get out of here." I heard a despairing sound; the ceiling began to creak unsettlingly. I held Xiaofang, grabbed Xiaoming's hand, and ran back the way we came.
I heard Meihui screaming in our old bedroom, calling our names, but her voice seemed to grow fainter and fainter. I realized she might be trapped somewhere else, or worse, she might already be... I didn't dare think any further. The smoke thickened, and I began to feel dizzy. Xiaoming and Xiaofang coughed incessantly in my arms, their breathing becoming increasingly rapid. I knew our time was running out, but I didn't know what to do. All escape routes were blocked by flames, and the window was three stories high; jumping would only mean another death. In that moment, I felt an unprecedented despair and helplessness. Suddenly, a burning beam fell from the ceiling, landing right between me and the children.
Lord, I prayed silently in my heart, if heaven truly exists, please protect my family. If I am to die today, please let my death have meaning, please let me save them. This was the first time in a long time that I had truly prayed. Although I grew up in church, with the busyness of work and life, my faith had long become a formality. I went to church every Sunday, but more out of habit than genuine belief. However, in this life-or-death moment, I found myself instinctively calling upon God for help. My vision began to blur, my consciousness began to fade, and I felt my heartbeat slowing and weakening.
3. Out-of-Body Experience: I Met Jesus
When darkness completely engulfed me, I thought it was the end. But death wasn't what I imagined. First came silence, a complete silence I'd never experienced before, as if the entire universe had held its breath. There was no roar of flames, no acrid smell of gunpowder, no terrified cries of children, only pure, absolute silence. In that silence, I felt a strange peace. Then came light. But it wasn't the orange glow of flames, but a warm, soft, loving white light.
I found myself floating above our apartment, looking down at the rescue efforts underway. Flashing in the rainy night, firefighters were battling the blaze. I saw neighbors gathered in the street, some weeping, some comforting each other. The rain continued, but the fire raged on. Then, I saw a heartbreaking sight; in the ruins of our apartment on the third floor, firefighters were carrying something. Looking closer, I saw four severely burned bodies. Three of the smaller bodies I recognized immediately were my wife, Mei-hui, and our two children; the fourth, the one curled up, was my own body.
Just as I was wallowing in this despair and confusion, I felt something approaching behind me. I turned and saw a figure I would never forget. Its appearance was silent, without any dramatic, dazzling effect. It simply stood there quietly, but I knew immediately it was Jesus. "Liang Wen," He said, His voice gentle yet authoritative. "Do not be afraid!" He continued, taking a step closer to me. I know your heart. I know your love for your family, I know your final prayers. "Your family, they are safe; death is not the end, but another beginning."
4. The Lord Reveals Important Things to Me
He stretched out his hand, beckoning me to follow Him. The surrounding scenery began to change; the Taipei cityscape faded away, replaced by a place I had never seen before. It was a space filled with light, but not a blinding light; rather, a warm, vibrant radiance. I saw hills in the distance, covered with beautiful plants I had never seen before. The sky's colors shifted constantly, from deep blue to golden yellow, from pale purple to pure white, each more vibrant and purer than any color on earth. "Where is this?" I asked. "This is the edge of my Father's kingdom," He replied, "but we are not here to linger, but to help you understand something important."
We have come to a place where we can look down upon the earth. I see countless church buildings, and thousands upon thousands of people walking towards them on Sunday mornings. "These are my people," He said, but with a hint of sadness in his voice, yet he looked more closely. As I observed more closely, I saw the truth behind the surface phenomena:
(1) Many people enter church, but their minds are elsewhere; some are thinking about work, some about money, some are simply there out of habit.
(2) I see pastors preaching, but some of their words are empty, lacking genuine faith and passion.
(3) Even more sorrowful, I see many believers living outside of church in a way completely inconsistent with the faith they demonstrate within. They speak of loving God and their neighbor on Sundays, but from Monday to Saturday, they live as if God does not exist.
"What do you see?" Jesus asked me. I saw many people like myself, and I painfully admitted that we say we believe in you, but our lives don't truly reflect that faith. "You're right," He nodded, "but that's not the only reason I brought you here today."
5. He Shows Me Something More Urgent
"I'm going to show you something more urgent." The vision changed again. This time, I saw the passage of time, as if watching a fast-forwarded movie. I saw events unfolding on earth at an alarming pace: wars, disasters, social unrest, moral decay. But most strikingly, I saw the church's reaction to these events, or rather, its lack of response. He said, "The day of my return is near, but my people are like those foolish virgins, unprepared for the oil."
Jesus turned to me, his eyes becoming more serious, "That's why I've let you experience all of this. You must go back; you must tell my people the truth. But Lord, I am dead, and my family is dead." "You are not dead, Liang Wen; your body is badly injured, but you are alive. As for your family, their time has come. They are safe and happy with me now; if you remain faithful to the end, you will see them again." "What should I tell people?" I asked. The Lord said: Tell them:
(1) I am coming soon; be vigilant and prepared.
(2) True faith is not a weekly gathering, but living a life that walks with me every moment.
(3) Love cannot remain merely words; it must be shown in actions.
6. The Lord's Warning to the Taiwanese Church
At this point, I began to understand the importance of the mission I was given, especially to the church in Taiwan. The Lord continued:
(1) They became complacent in their prosperity and forgot to be vigilant in their comfort.
(2) Many pastors are more concerned with the size of buildings and the number of congregations than with the condition of the souls of their flock.
(3) I am not moved by magnificent buildings or exquisite worship services, but by sincere hearts and holy lives.
I began to feel a pull, as if something was pulling me backward. I knew our conversation was coming to an end. Remember my words, Liang Wen, He said at the end:
"The pain you have experienced is not sudden, but is to enable you to speak with authority and truth. When people question your information, tell them you have seen the other side of death, that you have spoken with me personally. Go and tell my people the time for the Bridegroom to come is near."
7. The Soul Returns to the Body
The light began to grow stronger, and I felt myself being pulled back somewhere, back to the material world; I felt pain in my body. It felt as if a thousand needles were piercing my skin, and flames were burning in my lungs; I wanted to scream, but found it difficult to even breathe. I tried to open my eyes, but my eyelids were as heavy as lead; after countless attempts, I was finally able to open them a crack. "He's awake!" a woman's voice exclaimed excitedly, "Doctor, he's awake!" Soon, several people gathered around my bed.
A middle-aged male doctor bent down to examine my eyes, shining a flashlight into my pupils. His expression was serious. "Mr. Liang," he said, "can you hear me?" I could only manage a weak whisper, "Yes." The doctor turned to the nurses and said, "It's a miracle. He was in a coma for two whole weeks. We all thought he wouldn't wake up." Two weeks—in that spirit world, I thought only minutes had passed. "Where are my family?" I managed to say. The doctor's expression turned somber, then he said softly, "I'm so sorry! Your wife and children couldn't survive the fire. The funeral has already been held."
Even though I already knew this in the spirit world, hearing it from the doctor still shattered my heart. Tears streamed down my face, not only from the pain of losing my family, but also from the weight of the mission I now fully understood. I had lost everything, but I had received a mission from heaven. The doctors said that with burns covering 60% of my body, surviving was a miracle. But for me, it wasn't a miracle, but God's plan.
During my recovery, many people visited me: my colleagues, neighbors, and brothers and sisters from church. Everyone was amazed by my survival; many said it was God's protection. But what they didn't know was that I experienced something even more incredible than survival.
8. Sharing My Experience
I decided to share my experience: The first person was Pastor Chen from our church, a man in his sixties who had served for 30 years.
When he came to see me in the hospital, the compassion and care in his eyes were genuine. Brother Liang held my hand and said, "The whole church is praying for you. Seeing you survive, we all know God has a special plan for you." Pastor Chen, I said, "I need to tell you something about what happened while I was in a coma." He listened carefully, noticing some doubt. But when I described what Jesus told me about the current state of the church:
⑴ The Taiwanese church has become complacent, more concerned with outward success than the spiritual well-being of its members.
⑵ Many believers come to church on Sundays, but their hearts are elsewhere.
⑶ Many pastors are more concerned with the size of the building and the number of congregations than the spiritual well-being of their flock.
Pastor Chen remained silent for a long time, pondering my words, perhaps also reflecting on his own ministry. Finally, he said, “Brother Liang, if this truly is a vision from the Lord, then we must take it seriously. But people may not readily accept such information.” I knew, but the Lord told me, “You must speak out, regardless of whether people accept it or not.”
9. A New Life After being discharged from the hospital, I began a new life. Without my family, the apartment became a place filled with painful memories. I moved to a smaller place and began to focus on the mission I had received from the Lord, sharing my testimony in the church. At first, people listened intently, many moved by the miracles I had experienced; but when I conveyed the specific mission the Lord had given me, the reactions became complex. I shared:
"Brothers and sisters, the Lord tells me that His return is closer than we imagine, and we must be vigilant and prepared. Not just on Sundays, but every day. The Lord specifically mentioned the churches in Taiwan; we have become complacent in our prosperity and forgotten to be vigilant in our comfort. We care about the size of our church buildings and the number of our congregants, not whether our hearts truly belong to Him."
At this point, I saw some people begin to frown. After the meeting, several deacons approached me, one of whom said, "Brother Liang, we are so glad you survived the disaster, but your words may confuse some people. Our church has been growing; isn't this a blessing from God?" I replied, "I was simply conveying what the Lord said."
Another asked, "How do you know that was truly the Lord's word? You experienced severe trauma; it might be a hallucination." I began to understand what Jesus meant: "People don't want to hear information that challenges their comfortable lives, even if it comes from heaven."
10. Truly spiritual people will be awakened by the Lord Jesus. But I didn't give up and began sharing my testimony in other churches. Some churches welcomed me, while others politely declined my visits. Pastors who care about the true spiritual condition of the church usually welcome my testimonies; however, churches that focus on numbers and outward success tend to avoid hearing mine.
In a small church in Taichung, I met Pastor Lin. His church had fewer than a hundred members, but when I shared my experiences, I saw that their hearts were open. After I finished sharing, Pastor Lin said, “Brother Liang, your testimony made me deeply reflect. Your words answered my prayer. I need to re-examine what is truly important and teach the brothers and sisters to prepare for the Lord's second coming—the reality we must take seriously every day.”
This response filled my heart with hope. Although not everyone accepted my message, God was indeed using me to awaken some people. A few months later, I began writing a book, detailing my experiences. I also started sharing my testimony online, hoping to reach more people. The responses were varied. Some wrote to tell me that my testimony had changed their lives and made them take their faith seriously again. But others criticized me, saying I was using my tragedy to gain attention.
One day, I received a special letter. It was from a young woman, Wang Meiling. She said, "Mr. Liang, I always thought of myself as a good Christian because I went to church every Sunday. But after reading your testimony, I realized that my faith was only superficial. Your words showed me that I needed real repentance and change." This response let me know that despite the difficulties and criticism, the Lord was indeed using my testimony to awaken people. But the biggest challenge was yet to come.
11. The Lord Opens a Way for Me, a Huge Challenge
One day, I received a phone call from the Taiwan Christian Association. They wanted to invite me to a pastoral conference where I could share my experiences with pastors from all over Taiwan. It was a tremendous opportunity, but I also knew it would be a huge challenge. I would be facing some of the most influential substitute pastors in Taiwan, many of whom might not welcome my message. Lord, in my prayer, I said, if this is Your will, please give me the courage and wisdom to faithfully convey the message You have entrusted to me, regardless of the consequences. As the conference date approached, I felt both excited and nervous. I knew this could be one of the most important and one of the most difficult moments of my ministry.
I remembered what the Lord had told me in the spiritual realm:
(1) Go and tell my people that the time for the Bridegroom is near.
(2) Regardless of people's reactions, I must convey this message; this is my mission in life.
(3) I cannot fail the Lord's trust in me.
12. The Conference That Changed the History of the Taiwanese Church
That conference that changed the history of the Taiwanese church was held on an autumn afternoon in a magnificent church conference hall in Taipei, capable of holding over five hundred people. When I entered the hall, I saw that it was already filled with pastors, preachers, and church leaders from all over Taiwan. They ranged in age from their thirties to their seventies; some wore formal suits, others casual church attire, but they all shared one thing in common: a mixture of curiosity and skepticism in their eyes as they looked at me.
I sat in the audience, feeling both nervous and calm. Nervous because I was facing one of the most influential figures in Taiwan's Christian community, and my words might provoke considerable controversy; calm because I knew I was fulfilling a mission entrusted to me by the Lord. The host was Pastor Chang, president of the Taiwan Christian Association, a pastor in his seventies. When he introduced me, he said, “Today we have invited Brother Liang Wen to share his testimony. Brothers and sisters may have different perspectives on his experience, but we believe God can speak in various ways. Let us listen with open hearts.”
Standing at the pulpit, looking at the more than five hundred pairs of eyes below, I felt an unprecedented weight on my shoulders. This was not just my personal testimony, but the delivery of an urgent message from heaven:
“Dear pastors and church leaders, I know many of you may feel uncomfortable with what I am sharing, but do not reject it because of this. Instead, ask yourselves, is this a warning from God for this time?”
13. Witnessing the Lord Jesus's Instructions
I began to recount in detail my experience during the fire, from my out-of-body experience to my encounter with Jesus, and then to the information I received regarding the current state of the church and the warnings of the end times. I saw diverse reactions from the audience; some listened attentively, some whispered among themselves, and some looked uneasy. The Lord told me that many churches in Taiwan had lost their spiritual sensitivity in the midst of material prosperity. We've built beautiful churches, have large congregations, and our ministry seems very successful; but the Lord asks, where are our hearts? Are we serving God, or serving success?
I saw some pastors begin to frown, and some looked unhappy. But I continued, and the Lord specifically addressed the attitude of God's children towards the end times: "Many Christians treat His second coming as a distant, abstract concept, rather than a reality that could happen at any time. We seem to have infinite time, as if the Lord will never come." At this point, a commotion began to rise in the audience. I heard some whispering, and some looked uncomfortable.
I continued, "Many church leaders are more concerned with keeping their congregations comfortable than challenging them to holiness. We are reluctant to speak of the horrors of sin, fearing that brothers and sisters will leave. We are afraid to speak of the message of judgment, fearing it will be interpreted negatively. But the Lord says, if we don't warn people, who will?"
14. Some Doubt My Testimony
Just then, a pastor sitting in the front row stood up. He was the senior pastor of a large church in Taipei, a well-known figure who frequently appeared in the media. He said, “Brother Liang,” he continued, “I don’t question the authenticity of your experience, but I must ask, how do you know that the voice you heard was truly the Lord’s voice? How do you know it wasn’t a hallucination caused by your trauma?” I took a deep breath and replied, “Pastor Wang, that’s a very good question. I’ve asked myself the same question. But when I review the message I’ve heard, it’s completely consistent with the teachings of the Bible and accurately describes the current state of the church. I cannot deny that it came from the Lord.” Another pastor said, “Your fellowship is too negative. We should preach love and grace, not judgment and warning.” I replied, “Pastor Li, love and grace are indeed at the core of the gospel, but true love includes warning. If you see someone walking towards a cliff, the way to truly love them is to warn them of the danger, not to remain silent to avoid making them uncomfortable. Every word the Lord speaks to me comes from love, from His deep concern for the church.”
15. All the humble are willing to be taught.
More discussion began in the meeting room; my words were having a dividing and purifying effect. Some were deep in thought, some were angry, and some were confused. At this moment, a young pastor in his thirties stood up, his eyes filled with longing, and said, "Brother Liang, if your message is true, what should we do? How should we respond?" I felt a surge of comfort; at least someone was willing to seriously consider how to respond, instead of merely questioning the message's veracity! I replied: The Lord's words to me also contain ways to respond:
(1) First, we need genuine repentance—not superficial, formal repentance, but deep, thorough, and life-changing repentance.
(2) We need to honestly examine our motives for everything we do; to recommit ourselves to a holy life—not legalistic holiness, but true holiness born of love for God and neighbor. We need to reflect our professed faith in every detail of our lives.
(3) We must take the Lord's return seriously; it is not a distant hope, but a reality that could happen at any time. Remind brothers and sisters that we need to be like wise virgins, ensuring our lamps have enough oil.
(4) Courageously proclaim the full gospel of the Lord to the entire congregation, including the parts that may make people uncomfortable. Love sometimes requires saying harsh words, and truth can sometimes be sharp.
After I finished speaking, the room fell silent for several minutes, as if everyone was processing what I had just said. Finally, President Zhang stood up and said, "Brother Liang, thank you for sharing. I think each of us needs time to reflect on and pray about what you shared today."
16. God Touches Some Hearts
After the meeting, I was surrounded by a group of people. Some wanted to know more about my experiences, some wanted to challenge my views, and some wanted to say they felt challenged. An elderly pastor came up to me, tears in his eyes, and said, "Brother Liang, your words pointed out where I had strayed in my ministry. I haven't truly cared for the souls of my congregation for too long. I ask you to pray for me so that I can rediscover my original heart." This response deeply moved me. Although not everyone accepted my message, God was indeed using it to touch the hearts of some.
In the following months, I received invitations from all over Taiwan. Some churches invited me to share my testimony, and some individuals wanted to speak with me privately. I also received some criticism and attacks; some said I was spreading fear, others said I was dividing the church. But I also saw encouraging changes. Some pastors began to emphasize holiness and vigilance in their sermons. Some churches began to hold special meetings for the Lord's return, and some believers began to take their faith life seriously. Most importantly, a new spiritual hunger was awakened among God's children; they were no longer satisfied with superficial comfort but longed for a deeper, more real relationship with God.
17. Entrustment & commission
As I reflect on that fire and everything that followed, I understand a profound truth: God sometimes uses the most painful wounds to accomplish the most important work. I lost my loved ones, but I gained an eternal mission. My family is now in the Father's embrace, while I am left behind to deliver an urgent message to the people on earth. I don't know when the Lord will return, but that day is closer than most people imagine.
When preparing to meet the Lord, the focus is not on building magnificent halls, not on the size of the congregation, not on the success of the ministry, but on preparing the lamp oil like a virgin so that she may sit at the table with the Bridegroom! Do not be deceived by the prosperity and comfort of this world, nor place your hopes on earthly things.
The Lord has entrusted me with a commission, to convey an important message: every child of God must be vigilant and prepared, so that your life may become a burning lamp, illuminating this dark world. For on that day, the Bridegroom will indeed come. Are you ready? When the angels' trumpets sound and the King of Kings descends, will you be raptured to the Lamb's wedding feast?
