take the long way home
i saw the prophesy of a lifetime
home, love, bright room
someone standing in the kitchen smiling back to me
it was as real as the dream I once had of you
but what if it was never meant for me
growing old till death do us apart
what if I was never built in that way
like living is supposed to be an animal instinct carried inside me
what if i tell you
how quietly intentional its been to keep choosing tomorrow
when everyone else seems to do it effortlessly
If those are the last days of all of it
im only proud how far i have come
those beautiful, kind faces
i think of how they found their way into my life
I think of the things i left behind
from my mind and heart
life is good enough for everything i tried to become
and hard enough that I’ve simply had enough
can you see me going home now
after a long long way
warm, safe and eternal
the same place my mind used to wander to as a child
when i was in Uluru
i was told every rock every bush every lizard is kin
belonging exists beyond life, beyond time
i will never be truly gone
I will be In your memory, in the ocean when you take a morning dip
perhaps your favourite tree in the park
part of the stars when you look up on a clear night
maybe then, you won't feel so alone
do you see me going home now
i never want to be anyone but myself
at least in your memory
i will be forever young and beautiful
don't you think —
that i was beautiful
