Since Elon is talking about his UHI (Universal High Income) fantasies again, it seems like a good time to explain why socialism makes you dumb (not just lazy and more entitled).

In reality, we have to face and solve challenges all the time. When your livelihood depends on this either directly (for survival) or indirectly (to earn means of survival like money), you are forced to engage with reality and its challenges in order to maintain survival.

Engaging with reality and its challenges means two things: engaging reality, which is grounding, and solving problems, which is a skill that improves with training and practice, including by necessity. Having to solve problems engenders competence, which is another way of saying "not being retarded."

I'm almost positive the studies available bear me out here, but it stands to reason that when you just give people money, they become less competent because they're not practicing competence. They also become more idealist and less realistic because they're not engaging with reality as much (which, among other things, repeatedly checks their egos and imaginations).

We can actually see a microcosm of this problem in the elite sinecures of academia. There, you have an entire industry of really intelligent people who are actually pretty retarded because they only barely have to interact with reality and wander off in their imaginations. They do problem solving but on mostly abstract and fake problems. Peter Turchin's "Elite Overproduction" problem glares at us, as does the nightmare of being culturally and politically ruled by the equivalent of the Harvard University faculty, so to speak.

When people don't have to go into the world and solve problems, they not only stop growing in competence (and utility because the things they do are less useful by definition), they very likely regress (and I think the studies bear this out). They become less capable (more retarded) and more entitled (more morally retarded) while also drifting off into an idealistic way of thinking that's just toxic all around.

So, I'm pretty sure something like Universal High Income, even if that was ever to be a real thing, will at best turn us into the retarded incompetents in Wall-E, and we'll regret it. In reality, at least in the shorter term, we'll probably regret it a lot harder.

But in reality, there will not be UNIVERSAL High (or Basic) Income to begin with. They, meaning the government, which will somehow obtain the value produced by robots and AI systems mostly produced by private enterprises (I think...), will not merely dole out lots of money to everyone. There will be CONDITIONS.

What we'll really see is CONDITIONAL [Something] Entitlement Checks, which will probably necessarily be doled out according to some system rooted in social credit of some kind.

It might start as everyone above some very basic line gets BASIC entitlement checks (called "income") and will probably draw more lines over time to get HIGH or HIGHER entitlement checks (called "income"). Below that line, access will be limited, minimal, and extremely CONDITIONAL (we already see this in the CCP-controlled People's Republic of China, btw, with vast populations of social-credit untouchables).

Of course, this system will get increasingly labyrinthine, opaque, baroque, and obscure, kind of like the X monetization and algorithm program, and I'm sure it will be VERY FAIR.

The Woke Left, to the degree it can get its hands on this, will fight strongly for patently unfair "equity" algorithms that distribute and redistribute to their crony-controlled causes.

The Woke Right, to the degree it can get its hands on this, will make it as arbitrary and capricious and authoritarian as possible while awarding themselves and their friends maximum virtue thus entitlement checks while rubbing it in everyone's faces that it's because they're intrinsically better than you and deserve it.

The two sets of "elite" retards will fight endlessly over control of the algorithms and maximum control over the entitlements, and it will be horrible.

Everyone else will be left out to lunch, confused, and cheated -- and pissed off, thus likely destructive of the program, punished for it, and in a downward spiral. (This is what has happened in every attempted forced collectivization project in human history, so we should definitely expect it here.)

But that wasn't the point. The point is that even if it works, it will make us all retarded incompetence with unrealistic thoughts and disconnection from the world and radically increased and increasing dependence on this cracked system because while we get less and less able, it takes over more and more of what would have made us able in the first place.
