Objectification Shielding

Objectification Shielding refers to the process of translating a concrete person into a devalued object through linguistic, role-based, categorical, or ideological abstraction, thereby systematically lowering the weight of their clear signals of pain and need. In this process, the other is no longer perceived as an irreducible concrete subject; their signals are recoded as “overreacting,” “unreasonable,” “irrelevant,” or “normal for their role,” allowing the act of shutting down these signals to carry extremely low internal cost, often protected by ready-made narratives.
