Abstract :

This paper introduces two core theoretical concepts—Ideological Rights Violence and Abstract Conceptual Violence—to explain why women in East Asian patriarchal societies experience long-term systemic harm while remaining unable to recognize such harm as violations of their rights.

Unlike overt physical violence, these forms of harm operate through highly moralized, abstract, and culturally legitimized conceptual systems that frame female sacrifice, obedience, and self-erasure as “correct,” “virtuous,” and “natural.” Within this structure, men acquire continuous, stable, and low-cost institutional benefits, while women internalize suffering as duty and moral correctness.

The paper further analyzes why even in modern societies with access to information, long-term victimized East Asian women often fail to recognize their own rights violations. The core reason lies in deep ideological imprinting: these abstract norms are instilled from birth and treated as unquestionable truths. Without intentional exposure to feminist theory and critical gender analysis, many women may never encounter the conceptual tools necessary to identify the harm they endure.

1. Theoretical Framework

This study is situated at the intersection of political philosophy, human rights theory, cultural psychology, and gender studies. It advances a central claim: not all violence is perceptible, and the most stable and destructive forms of violence are often those misrecognized as “proper order.”

In East Asian patriarchal societies, oppression of women relies less on immediate coercion and more on prolonged, repetitive, and institutionalized ideological conditioning that encourages women to voluntarily comply with structures fundamentally detrimental to them.

2.   Key Definitions

2.1  Ideological Rights Violence

Ideological Rights Violence refers to a form of systemic harm that deprives individuals of fundamental human rights under the guise of morality, culture, collective values, or “correct thinking.” Its defining feature is that victims are not only unable to recognize the violation but are encouraged to legitimize, defend, and even glorify it.

2.2  Abstract Conceptual Violence

Abstract Conceptual Violence refers to harm imposed on concrete bodies, lives, and rights through highly abstract and unquestionable concepts such as filial piety, chastity, honor, family duty, or feminine virtue. Its power lies precisely in its abstraction and resistance to challenge.

3.   Why Women Struggle to Identify the Harm

4.  Women struggle to identify these forms of harm not due to a lack of intelligence or rationality, but because the tools required for recognition are systematically denied.

5.  First, these norms are instilled from birth as “truths,” not as socially constructed arrangements.
Second, women are trained to interpret self-doubt as virtue and endurance as maturity.
Third, any act of questioning is reframed as selfishness, immaturity, or relational disruption.

6.  The long-term result is that women experiencing persistent suffering are more likely to blame themselves than to identify structural violations.

4. Why Men Systematically Benefit /

Within this structure, men benefit from a low-cost, high-stability, intergenerationally transferable system of advantage.

Men are not required to exert continuous force; maintaining the legitimacy of abstract norms is sufficient.
Women self-discipline, self-sacrifice, and self-suppress, effectively becoming automated enforcers of the system.

This represents an exceptionally efficient configuration of power.

5. Why Long-Term Victims Still Cannot Recognize the Violation
